Starting a new medication can feel a bit stressful at first, and that is completely normal.
This page highlights the key points to help you take Rybelsus® tablets safely and get the most benefit from them.
How to take Rybelsus®
- Take it on an empty stomach, before your first food or drink of the day. Taking it soon after you wake up is a good option.
- Take 1 tablet with plain water only (up to about half a glass, 120 mL or less).
- Wait at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking (including coffee or tea), or taking any other medicines.
- Swallow the tablet whole. Please do not split, crush, or chew it.
Notes on correct use and storage
- Please do not take it with tea, coffee, or swallowing jelly.
- If there is food or drink in your stomach, the medication may not be absorbed as well, which can reduce its effect.
- Rybelsus® is sensitive to moisture and light. Take the tablet out of the blister only when you are ready to take it.
Common side effects
Some digestive symptoms can happen, such as nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, or stomach discomfort.
- If symptoms continue or feel hard to manage, please speak with your clinician.
- Seek urgent medical attention if you have severe or persistent abdominal pain with vomiting.
Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
Low blood sugar can occur, especially if you are taking other diabetes medicines such as SU medicines or insulin.
Typical symptoms can include cold sweat, shaking, palpitations, and intense hunger.
- Please carry a source of sugar or glucose.
- If you use an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, sugar may not work as well, so choose glucose-containing food or drink.
FAQ
-
If my blister pack is torn or the tablet is cracked, can I still take it?
- Please do not take it. Because the tablet is sensitive to moisture and light, it may not work as intended. Please take a new tablet from an intact blister.
-
Do I need to take it at the exact same time every day?
- The exact time can vary. The most important point is to take it when your stomach is empty.
-
What if I forget a dose, or I already ate before taking it?
- Please do not take it that day. Take your next dose the following day, on an empty stomach.
-
Can I take two 7 mg tablets instead of one 14 mg tablet?
- No, please do not take multiple tablets at once.
